Sheldon and Geni's 2013 Camping Trip
Today is: September 6
We woke up in: Wall, SD We're going to sleep in: Luverne, MN

Back in South Dakota today as we make our way home. It was almost like home away from home because it is starting to be familiar! Shel wanted to go to the Minuteman Missile so we started out there, but had to wait for a later tour. We got to see a short video though.

We took the scenic loop of the badlands. Yep, more rock pictures! We watched a video at the info center where people talked about their lives in the badlands. The ranchers help each other out with the cattle roundups, each head of cattle requires 20 acres of land and sometimes they clash with the rangers who want to protect endangered species (plant or animal) when they might actually be detrimental to the farmers. We stopped at the various spots to take pictures, and they say, keep on the path, rattle snakes. But then, there is alot of hiking allowed, so maybe they say that so people won't wander. Everything is magnificent but of course you just can't capture it in a photo.

Well,I dawdled too long, and we missed the missle guided tour, but it wouldn't have been that good because their elevators were broken and you couldn't actually go down to the control room. We went over to the actual site of the missle so Shel could see that.

We left South Dakota and we found a campsite across the border in Minnesota. We drove for 6 hours today -- and it's really hot here.

Shel: Getting tired of the heat - in the mid 90's every day! The Pioneer Auto Museum was great. Lots of old cars, most from the 20's and 30's. Not show quality, but mostly original. Had some muscle cars too. A group of trucks and tractors. There were tractors made by Porsche and Lamborghini.

Upped the speed a little and gas mileage went to hell, but it is difficult going slow on these long straight roads. They have the same seasons as we do in New England - Winter and Construction!

I won't comment on the pics since they are just rocks except to
say that they are really a sight to see

Yes Marcia, more rocks!

A rattlesnake sign was here, but at least we were up
on a raised platform

We didn't walk down, but it was a canyon of rock formations

The above ground Silo is well hidden

A training Minuteman Missle in the Silo

Nice '57 convertable

One of the last "General Lee"'s

A wooden car

So corny - but no one was around, so we set the camera self timer
- one of the few pics together

This museum had so much memorabilia - lots of cars, but also
toys, games, replicas of towns - you could be there for
days -- we stayed about an hour!
