Sheldon and Geni's 2018 Trip to Alaska
Today is: July 20 (20,009)
We woke up in: Valdez, AK We're going to sleep in: Tetlin Junction, AK

Shel: Today was pretty much a travel day. Left Valdez after Roland tried fishing for a couple of hours. We are on our way to Chicken AK but decided to spend the night in a turnout near Tetlin Junction. Tomorrow we will go to Chicken and then Sunday we will continue to Dawson City YT.

Geni: Stopped at the same spot we were at yesterday before leaving Valdez, so got more wildlife pictures but no bear sightings. I was surprised that Valdez wasn't a bustling city (is there one in Alaska?) but it was just a small town with no shopping malls, no chain stores, no tall buildings! Between the earthquake in 1964 and the oil spill in 1989, Valdez has gone through much trauma, but they continue the life they have always led. Lots of driving, but ended in a turnout and had dinner. Later a woman from Brazil traveling with her teenage daughter stopped for the night as well.

Overcast day in Valdez; seals are clinging to island in high tide. We don't know why their heads are pointed up!!

Shel is obsessed with eagles; so another eagle shot. Looks like he's ready to take flight, but we can't manage a flying eagle shot yet

On our way out of Valdez, heading down Thompson Pass, clouds hanging below mountaintop. Soon after, sun was out

Beautiful weather at our turnout, so barbequed and ate outside
