Sheldon and Geni's 2014 Camping Trip
Today is: September 12
We woke up in: Woodburn, OR We're going to sleep in: Crater Lake NP OR

Shel: Nice trip down from Woodburn except for the traffic. At one point I just took a random exit and forced my girl friend (GPS) to take me down back roads around the traffic jam. Got to Crater Lake - HS! We were pulling the camper up over 7000' on a windy narrow road with cliffs on both sides! Sweating by the time we got to the campground :)

Geni: Left Woodburn and got into a stop and go traffic jam. Shel decided to get off an upcoming exit and we circled around a few towns and got back onto the interstate farther down. Sometime later, a blue car we had seen before we took the detour, drove past us. Since we were driving slower due to the camper, that traffic jam must have been bad. Closer to the park, we drove through a town and smelled smoke.. We couldn't see a fire, but there were signs on the road advising fire personnel where to go.

Crater Lake is another large park. It took a few hours to get here and then another hour to get to our campsite which was at the southern part of the park. We had to drive with the camper up and down steep mountain roads with no railings. I admit I was holding my breath a few times. We got here after 3 PM, so took it easy and just went to a few scenic overlooks. We go to the visitor's center to ask what is not to be missed, but it was closed. Will do that tomorrow. Crater Lake is beautiful, but not much happening as far as viewing goes.

Lots of smoke as we rode through town of Cascade,OR - however, no one in the town was concerned

Beautiful campsite at Mazama Village -there are cabins and lodges around the park

Crater Lake - again, like a painting - just some slight currents visible

Wizard island formed from volcano exploding 7,700 years ago

Picture on one of the signs - Shel impressed with size of snowblower

Snow depth information

Sides of walls surrounding lake are steep and rocky. Here is a tree that fell over and staying at that slant

Saw a pretty bird

Another beautiful shot of lake

Another beautiful shot of Shel by a different view of lake -

At some viewing areas you could be this close to the ledge

Another view of walls close up and in the distance

View is across the lake from where we were standing
