Sheldon and Geni's 2014 Camping Trip
Today is: September 10
We woke up in: Olympic NP We're going to sleep in: Mount Rainier NP

Shel: We had a relatively uneventful trip from Okympic National Park to Mount Rainier National Park. Got here and the top of the mountain was stuck in the clouds. We were a little low on gas so decided to go into town to get gas. Town is 28 miles away and 3000' lower in elevation!

Geni: These parks are getting larger with miles to go from place to place. We drove up the mountain to get to the campsite, down the mountain to get gas, up a different side to drive up to the highest visitor's center, and looped through mountian roads to get to other sites. Shel drove from Olympic National Park to here -- we got here around 12:30 - ate lunch and then took off and didn't get back to almost 8 p.m. He amazes me that he just keeps trucking along - he drove over 300 miles all together.

Mt. Rainier with clouds around it

Packwood - nearest town - nice view but not busy area

Mountain roads that go up to Paradise trails

This area was highest spot to drive up to see Mt. Rainier which was hidden by clouds

All rocks - maybe it is where a glacier made it's way down the mountain

Trail of the Shadows in Longmire - a beaver's handiwork

In the late 1800's someone discovered a hot springs and set up a community in this area. This was one of their cottages - one room

This was part of the spa or maybe the hotel

Hard to see, but pinkish red pigment on left side of middle mountain

This is the rapids above the Narada Falls

This is what we saw at the road's edge

We decided to walk down the steps to the bottom

Saw this beautiful falls which was hidden from the road

Mountainside roads were really scary - see the car and the ledge it is on

At Box Canyon - this rock shows the polished rock that was once covered by a gllacier but also little plants that are forming new life on it

Box Canyon - water level was 115 feet below top of the canyon

On way back to campsite, we got a shot of Mt. Rainier with reflection of sun as it was going down and without clouds covering it
