Sheldon and Geni's 2014 Camping Trip
Today is: September 6
We woke up in: Vantage, Wa We're going to sleep in: Renton, Wa

Shel: Well, I could say we got up and had an early start, but I'd be lying. We took a little side trip to a state park to view the petrified trees, started down the trails and Geni saw the rattle snake sign - she headed straight back to the truck :)

We had to go through a couple of passes on the way to Seattle and ran low on gas. Stopped at a station that only had suprme at $4.40. To top that off the guy un front of us went in to shop while pumping gas and when he came out fiddled in his car until Geni went to ask if he could move :) Truck pulls really well!

We set up camp in our friend's driveway. You know, the friends that went to Las Vegas when they heard us coming. Then headed into Seattle for some sightseeing. They have plenty of traffic here too!

Geni: Thought we would go to Gingo Petrified Forest before we left for Seattle. Just a short ride from the campsite. No one was there, but we figured we would head down the path until I saw the sign below. I figured that since I didn't have boots on, only bare legs, there was no way I was going to hang around there.

Shel's not a city guy -- driving to boston is not top on his list -- but the drive into Seattle went well. He even figured out a short cut to avoid traffic. We did the touristy stuff today. Nice hotel people let us park for free for a while to see the space needle and then we parked over at Pike's market place. Driving was very manageable in Seattle. Space Needle was fun to go to and see the city from so high up. We went to Chihuly's Glass Garden exhibit. I had seen an exhibit of his work in Boston at MOFA. It was spectacular.

Then off to Pike's Place where we walked around. Like Fanueil Hall except this place is more a farmer's market with fresh fruit, vegetables and fish as well as the other little food/gift shops and food court. It was a fun place to walk around. Went out for dinner later and walked around waterfront. Fun night.

Left real fast - Wasn't taking any chances

Space Needle - observation deck 52 stories high

Chihuly Gardens glass artwork close up

Would love some of these ceiling panels

Light reflection on walls from panels

Each piece so unique but putting it together is a masterpiece

One piece is more magnificent than the next

How this glass chandelier is put together was shown in a film we watched, but still hard to imagine each piece is painstakenly placed

Chihuly's mother's flower garden was his inspiration

He believed in mixing the outdoor and indoor

This is an example of the glass art as part of nature

On observation deck on space needle

Some one offered to take our picture, so we said sure!

Can hardly see it, but Mt Ranier in the distance

I think this is view of Puget Sound

At famous Fish market where they throw fish and yell to each other- it was very entertaining

Fresh fruits and vegetables

Outside Pike's Market

Famous ferris wheel at waterfront - we didn't go on

Walk backthrough Pike's place before we left. Shel eating ice cream so he's happy
