Sheldon and Geni's 2014 Camping Trip
Today is: September 3
We woke up in: Glacier National Park We're going to sleep in: Glacier National Park

Shel: We rode around the park for over 200 miles - Truck did well, 14.9 MPG, oh wait - no trailer :) Going-To-The-Sun-Road was narrow and scary at times, a rock wall on one side and a cliff on the other. As per usual we ran into construction and had to wait in a couple of places.

Geni: In all our travels, this was the first day that it rained on our vacation. We drove the 50 mile Going to the Sun Road and stopped at different spots. We spent about 8 hours walking and driving in and out of the rain and into occasional sun, depending upon whether we were on the east glacier side or the west glacier side. The views were spectacular and the photos can't compare. We saw glaciers on the mountain tops, saw streams andwaterfalls and we were literally in the clouds. We ran into some Rhodes Scholars at the Avalanche Creek and walked with them for a while so we could hear what their guide was saying. They are a national organization on a ten day visit and the woman who started talking to me said she lived in Idaho but had gone to Wellesley College (small world). As per our luck, all the wildlife -- bears (thankfully not), mountain goats, and any living creatures were no where to be seen. Only saw cattle and horses.

Roads were narrow but driveable, just a few spots were scary

Avalanche Creek - beautiful glacier water but only drinkable for animals due toS bacteria that begins with letter g - Rhodes scholar guide told us

This tree is a Cottonwood next to a western cedar - bark is so different

All the following pictures were taken along the Going to the Sun Road
