Today was a travelling day. We took off early and went to the Tusayan Ruin where there were prehistoric ruins of Pueblo inhabitants. It was early, so we didn't get into the museum, but saw the ruins. There was a sign there that said: Don't harm the snakes!! What??? The sign said those snakes were harmless and did provide a service eating the highly populated rodents. Luckily, I did not see any of these snakes - harmless or not! Then we went to the Watchtower where you could see, once more, the grand canyon. We saw 4 tour buses when we pulled up and there were lots of foreign tourists there. We did not hear anyone speaking english, but did hear german, maybe dutch, and french. We said goodby to the grand canyon and headed to Four Corners. We stopped at the Navaho National Monument where we saw ruins of cliff dwellers. Again, the trail was hours long and very steep, so we took the easy trail that overlooked it all. Then off to Four Corners Monument where the four states meet in one spot. The states are Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. I thought it would be a lovely spot on a mountaintop, however, it was a drive up a long road that led to a dusty dirt filled parking lot. There was a courtyard with the designated spot available for pictures and booths manned by native americans selling their wares. It was under construction, so perhaps in the future, it will be more inviting. The spot itself was impressive, though. We got to the campsite by 5:30 and we will see what mesa verde is all about tomorrow.
