Sheldon and Geni's 2011 Camping Trip
Today is: June 13
We are in: Front Royal, VA

We saw a bear today!! Our first bear!! It was a baby bear and caught us so off guard as we were driving to the Visitor's Center. It actually posed for a moment, however, I couldn't get the camera ready in time and the first picture is of baby bear running away.It was an exciting start, but except for a few deer, that was it for the wildlife. It was beautiful weather and the views were impressive along the Skyline Drive. There are so many places to stop and catch the view (75 places), however, after a while, the breathtaking views become repetitive, so we started to skip 60 or so!! We did a couple of hikes (.9 miles and 1.2 miles) to see some nice views. It's still not tourist season, so no crowds to fight! (If you want to see any panoramic pics that Shel put together, just double click on them - different views from different locations)

Artists interpretations at this site very different from one another. No one was drawing the dead tree (yet!) which was hard to ignore

This deer ran across the street in front of us and then was kind enough to pose before he left!

We drove through tunnel built through Mary's Rock

Setting up to rappel from Stoney Man Overlook

View from hike to Stoney Man Overlook

Another view of roads from same place

Bracing myself at edge so I wouldn't stumble and fall over

Lots of mountain laurel plants blooming at Limberlost hike

Pretty view of fallen or bending trees along trail

Probably not nature made but interesting if it was!

Remnants from Lava Rock formation

Shenandoah Valley from Skyline Drive

Another view from different overview

Not sure what this "flower" is but all along side of Skyline Path
