The day started out so great. We had a pretty good sleep at the service plaza, got on our way early and saw a really pretty sunrise as we drove along. Sometime after we crossed the border to Pennsylvania, Shel noticed a problem which turned into a major problem. We stopped on the PA turnpike around the Cranberry Exit. It was the transmission. It was deja vu once again. Called AAA for tow truck. Meanwhile a highway worker stopped by and tried to be helpful. I thought it was so nice of him to hang around until I found out that was his job! But he was trying to be helpful and he was protecting us as we waited along the highway. I was not going to take pictures, because this time there was nothing amusing about it and I just didn't want to ever remember this. But, when the tow truck came and we started to hook up, I figured we needed to document it somewhat --I purposely took pics that show I just wasn't that into the whole situation -- in other words, they weren't really good shots. But I should have because he just hooked up the truck onto the tow truck and the camper just trailed in the back behind the truck. That probably was worth a picture. We spent the morning with the tow truck driver as he had to drive the truck to the dealer and then drop us and the camper off at the campsite (once again!). He was a dj and kareoke guy on the side and tried out (with his ex-fiancee) for The Voice this summer but didn't make it. The campground is really beautiful -- again, quite emptry. One of the guys drove me to a nearby grocery so I could get some supplies. We couldn't find any rental cars available, but the campground owner knew someone who could rent Shel a truck. So, we are doing ok under the circumstances. Again, lucky this didn't happen in South Dakota. That tow bill would be the cost of a small car! Shel: This is getting depressing and expensive! The first transmission job was 3000 and this one is over 4000! Last time the line from the tranny to the radiator leaked and took out the trans. This time the oil cooler in the radiator failed putting coolant into the transmission. Talked to Ford and Chevy today: Do I need a bigger truck and they both said no, what I have is fine. This is the third transmission - I think it's time to trade! |
