Sheldon and Geni's 2013 Camping Trip
Today is: August 31
We woke up in: Saginaw, MN We're going to sleep in: Kimball, SD

Shel: We drove just over 500 miles today. Hot is not the word for it! I never realized just how much of Minnesota is farm land!! When I start pushing 65, mileage goes down to about 8 - especially on a hot day. The return trip will be much better, Geni will be on the sunny side of the truck.

Geni: It was a travel day. We decided not to go to Montana as we lost some time with the transmission problem. We'll add that to the next trip. We were commenting how much undeveloped and how much farm land covers Minnesota and South Dakota. We just drove for hours and only saw flat land and lots of corn and cows. We passed a sign that said Laura Ingall Wilder's homestead (Little House on the Prairie) which I would have loved to stop at, but we were flying down the highway with a mission to get as far as we could. That led to a discussion about the pioneers and Shel said that probably our driving for one hour equalled one day (or even more!) of their journey by covered wagon.

We saw a sign on the road that said campground, so we stopped to find that it is a self-service campground -- Only we would find such a place. Of course I was nervous, but the place has electric/water and sewer hook-ups on the honor system. (unless someone comes in the middle of the night and beats on your door). We are close to the highway, so I guess we are ok. Of course we are the only ones here.

Beautiful Minneapolis - just a drive-by

Silo - one of many we saw on Rt. 90

Corn growing and more silos

This is what we saw for pretty much 5 hours

Lots of places seem to have lots of windmills in MN

Pretty view of farmhouse and surrounding land

Was able to catch this shot as we passed by - wasn't successful
with any previous states - sometimes the sign's location catches
you by surprise, sometimes I just can't focus in time!

This was my view for 8 hours to my left - I can't complain - he
does all the driving, but I have to listen to oldies songs all day

Weather was hot! -

Great view of our campsite
