| Busy day. Overslept to start the day then headed into the park. Took a 4x4 dirt road which shook the crap out of us and the truck. Put things back in place when we hit the paved roads. Went to Santa Elena Canyon where we got our first look at the Rio Grande. Meandered around the park, went up and took a photo at the Window Trail. Left the US and went down to the river where we could have crossed into Mexico. Went to Rio Grande Village (don't blink, you'll miss it). Did a 2 mile each way hike into the Hot Springs. Shel thought it was a good idea to drive down Old Maverick Rd. which was a horrible, bumpy, dirt and rock filled road. It was a bad start. However, we got to see the Rio Grande river which was very shallow. Went through border crossing to Mexico but only for a photo opp as the border patrolman told us the site would be closing soon and if we weren't back we would be stuck there. Ended day at a hot springs which was nice, however, false advertisement said it was 1.4 miles and turned out to be a longer than we anticipated. Almost two miles and walking both ways had its disadvantage. Especially walking back with strong headwind.
